Thank you to Sam Elmir – Councillor for Blakehurst Ward – Georges River Council who made an amendment to a ‘receive and note’ update report on the Regional Aquatic Facility Study at Monday’s Asset & Infrastructure Committee Meeting. The recommendation from Council administrative staff did not even include the word Carss Park in the recommendation. So instead of just ‘receive and note’ Councillor Elmir added points (b) and (c) to the recommendation that reinstated Council’s priority for the existing site of the Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park as the site for the rebuilding of a regional aquatic centre. The amendment also instructed the General Manager to prepare a report for the Dec Council meeting that detailed the exact process and timeline for the rebuilding of Carss Park Pool.

Rebuild Carss Park Pool campaigner Ilknur Bayari made an excellent address to the committee, calling out Council for the delays and survey after survey when the community had spoken loud and clear about their expectations for Carss Park Pool to be rebuilt on the existing site. You can listen to Ilknur’s speech and the councillors’ responses here.

Thank you to Councillor Elmir for your continued support of Rebuilding Carss Park Pool.

The amended recommendation is not set in stone as yet. It will go to the November Council meeting where we will call on the 15 Councillors to adopt the minutes of the committee meeting with no changes.

We need all Rebuild Carss Park Pool supporters to come to the November Council Meeting on Monday 25th November.
